GRANITE
The word Granite comes from the Latin granum, a grain, in reference to the coarse-grained structure of such a crystalline rock. Granite is an igneous rock with similar composition as lava. It is formed from Liquid magma, the molten rock still found in the core of earth. Granite is a very hard stone. Granite is nearly always massive (lacking internal structures), hard and tough, and therefore it has gained widespread use as a construction stone. The average density of granite is 2.75 g/cm3 and its viscosity at standard temperature and pressure is ~4.5 • 1019 Pa•s. Granites have three minerals in common :
1. Feldspar ( 50% or greater)
2. Quartz (25-40%)
3. Mica (3-10%)
These minerals occur in different proportions giving each granite its own color, texture and structural characteristics. No two pieces are alike.Granite is a very high end product and is commonly used in home or commercial space.
The following colors of granite are very popular in the world.
SAND STONE
Sandstone is sedimentary rock formed by the cementing together of grains of sand. The usual cementing material in sandstone is calcium carbonate, iron oxides, or silica, and the hardness of sandstone varies according to the character of the cementing material; quartz sandstones cemented with quartz are the hardest. Sandstones are commonly gray, buff, red, or brown although green and some other colors are also found. Natural sandstone represents traditional or modern designs where the unique combinations of color and texture add an ageless yet contemporary feel. As a result, Indian sandstone is suitable for domestic and commercial use. Owing to their natural beauty, sandstones are used for interior as well as exterior decoration including flooring, paving, cladding walls and floors. They are attractive and durable and hence sandstones are widely in demand.
SLATE
Slate is a fine-grained, foliated, homogeneous metamorphic rock derived from an original shale-type sedimentary rock composed of clay or volcanic ash through low grade regional metamorphism. Slate is frequently grey in colour especially when seen en masse covering roofs. However, slate occurs in a variety of colours even from a single locality. Basically, slate is compacted mud. Sometimes plant fossils are found on the surfaces of slate stones. Like granite, slate is durable and impervious to heat. It is fire resistant and you don't need to worry about burning or charring your slate countertops. It is a fine grained and non porous natural stone.
